We love supporting the Big Learner Relay for BBC Children in Need every November.

The idea is really simple; to use only learner drivers, on a series of driving lessons to relay a Pudsey Bear inspired driving school ‘top box’ around the UK, to raise money for Children in Need.

The organising team behind the Big Learner Relay plan this ambitious event to run in the 2 week period upto the BBC Children in Need appeal day, and ask around 200 separate learners all around the UK to ‘join up’ a series of around 200 one-hour driving lessons.

The Pudsey Bear top box is handed-over from each learner to the following learner, and travels 3,000 miles around the UK, ending to coincide with the Children in Need appeal day.

The Relay engages hundreds of learners and their instructors around the UK along with schools, community groups and businesses all of whom find creative and imaginative ways to raise money.

One popular way that the Big Lerner Relay raises money is by spotting-up the cars involved and inviting member of the public, pupils and their friends and families to ‘Sponsor a Spot’, which all goes to the total.

The ‘lead car’ for each leg of the Relay is usually additionally supported by a convoy of many other driving school cars, all driven by learners who follow the Relay lead car to show their support!

In just 6 years the Big learner Relay has raised over £450,000 for BBC Children in Need, which supports thousands of projects that help disadvantaged kids all around the UK.
