What is Pass Plus?

This is DrivingDesigned by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) in support of the driving instruction industry and insurance companies, Pass Plus is a great way to further develop your driving skills after passing your test.

Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years of passing their test due to a lack of driving experience.

Pass Plus builds upon the knowledge and skills that you have developed through learning to drive, specifically around anticipation, planning for and dealing with hazards and generally driving with more confidence.

 What’s covered?

Pass Plus develops yours driving skills around 6 areas:

  • Driving in a busy town
  • Driving in adverse weather conditions
  • Driving on a quiet country road
  • Driving at night
  • Driving on a dual carriageway
  • Driving on motorways

How long does it take?

Pass Plus is a practical course and therefore all 6 modules should be practical sessions. However, local conditions and time of year may mean that some modules need to be given as a theory session. A theory session could be given if there is no motorway nearby. Generally at least five and a half out of six hours should be spent in the car.

You will not have to take a test at the end of the course but you will be continually assessed during the modules.

Benefits of Pass Plus

The main benefit of any additional driver training is to improve your driving skills and knowledge, and make you a safer, more confident driver.

However once you have successfully completed the Pass Plus course you’ll receive a certificate which you can use with your insurance company to receive a significant discount on your car insurance premium.
